Getting Graphic

Night of the Homework Zombies. 2006. By Scott Nickel Illustrated by Steve Harpster

The substitute teacher brainwashes all of Trevor Walton's classmates into ....GASP....wanting to do their homework! Oh no, what can Trevor do? A fast, fun read. (Ages 7-12) (I wonder where a parent can obtain that homework brainwashing machine?)

Babymouse: Monster Mash. 2008. by Jennifer L Holm & Matthew Holm

Babymouse is so excited for Halloween. She and her friend Wilson, have grand plans to create scary Halloween costumes this year. Babymouse is also going to host a Halloween party at her house, after trick-or-treating is over. Life is so good, until Babymouse allows Felicia Furrypaws & crew to take control over her Halloween plans. Aaarrghh - Felicia's rules are ruining Babymouse's Halloween! Hey Babymouse, are you having fun yet? Monster Mash is great Halloween hit. Babymouse you rock! (Ages 7-12)

Coraline by Neil Gaiman. 2008. Adapted & Illustrated by P. Craig Russell

Coraline is soooo bored. There is nothing to do. She's explored every possible explorable place, a dozen times. Her toys are boring, her meals are boring, her mother chooses boring new school clothes for her, and she doesn't have any friends her age around. One day, when her parents are away, she unlocks the bricked up door in her house, to find the doorway - open. The space on other side of the door looks eerily similar to her real life. At first Coraline is excited about the cool toys, yummy food and the attention she receives from her 'other parents', but something besides their button eyes, is not quite right. The illustrations captures the creepiness and rising tension from this fabulous story quite well. A wonderful adaption of one my favorite spooky stories. (Ages 8-12)
